Spotlight on Success: 2024 Rotary Technology Tournament

In the spirit of innovation and collaboration, the Rotary Club of Christchurch proudly presents the highlights of the recently concluded 2024 Rotary Technology Tournament. Held on Friday, 8th March, this event showcased the brilliance and creativity of students from 12 schools, with a total of 40 teams spanning Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.

The central challenge of the tournament was ingeniously designed – teams were tasked with conveying a ShelterBox over a ravine in a moving model form. The dedication and enthusiasm displayed by the participating schools were truly commendable, making the day a celebration of STEM excellence.

Talbot Heath School emerged victorious in Key Stage 3, Ringwood School triumphed in Key Stage 4, and Twynham School secured the top spot in Key Stage 5. Additionally, we applaud the second-place achievements of Twynham School in Key Stage 5 and The Grange School in Key Stage 3. These students exemplify the future of engineering and technology with their innovative solutions.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to our sponsors, particularly BAE SYSTEMS, whose unwavering support and sponsorship, alongside invaluable printing services, contributed significantly to the success of the event. Special thanks also to Marden Edwards of Ferndown for providing practice jigs and Bournemouth Collegiate for their consistent generosity.

The day was enriched by a captivating keynote speech from Spike Jepson of Draken Aviation at Hurn. Drawing on his experiences as a pilot in the RAF and Red Arrows, Spike drew striking parallels between the challenges faced by the student teams and those encountered in the real world. His inspiring words left an indelible mark on all present.

As we reflect on the triumphs of the 2024 Rotary Technology Tournament, we express gratitude to everyone involved – students, schools, sponsors, and our dedicated Rotary members covering 10 Rotary Groups in the Bournemouth and Christchurch area. The event not only showcased the incredible talent within our community but also reinforced our commitment to fostering a passion for innovation and learning. Here’s to the continued success of the Rotary Technology Tournament in the years to come!
