“What a great evening !” – one of many similar comments from the 74 guests who enjoyed Christchurch Rotary’s 13th annual wine tasting on 22 February, kindly hosted by Captains Club, and sponsored by local solicitors Williams Thompson.

Chris White of Ellis Wines expertly guided everyone through the tasting of delicious wines, namely two whites and two reds, with helpful tasting notes to take away, after which Captains Club provided a excellent light supper.

The chosen charity for the evening was Shelterbox

Rotarian Howard Matthews said : “Shelterbox provides shelter, essential items and technical assistance to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people recover and rebuild their homes after disaster. We listen and adapt our support to the needs of each community, working together with those affected by disaster, alongside our supporters and partners”.

The evening’s organiser, Rotarian Peter Boardman said : “the evening was a great success, not only because of the splendid wine tasting itself, but also because those who came raised no less than £3,600 for Shelterbox – enough to donate 6 Shelterboxes. Thank you so much everyone for your amazing generosity”.
