Christchurch Rotary International Service Team supports a range of projects and initiatives overseas. We recently donated £3000 to the charity Dentaid. This charity provides dental care and oral health advice for people experiencing homelessness, harm, poverty and abuse in the UK. It also supports dentists in Africa and Asia helping them to provide care in poor and remote communities.

The money Christchurch Rotary donated funded a DentaidBox for a mobile dental clinic in Uganda. The equipment in this box was recently installed and we have received the following letter of thanks from Jolly Mweruka, public health dental officer and Ugandan associate of Dentaid The Dental Charity. We felt it appropriate to publish the letter so that people who donate generously to Christchurch Rotary can see how their money is spent and the difference that it makes to people.

A Gift of Dental Care

The dental team of Yekko Foundation Uganda in Kiyibwe, Masaka, was overjoyed when they received a generous donation from Dentaid UK and the Rotary Club of Christchurch UK. The donation included a dental chair, instruments, cement, and LED light, which would enable them to provide quality dental services to the community.

Community Dental Outreaches

With the new equipment, the Yekko Foundation Uganda dental team was able to launch a community dental outreaches program, providing essential dental care to people in need. They travelled to remote areas, setting up temporary clinics and offering a range of services, including fillings, extractions, and oral health education.

Transforming Smiles

The donation had a profound impact on the community. Many people had never had access to dental care before, and the team’s services brought relief and hope to those who needed it most. The dental chair, instruments, and LED light enabled the team to provide high-quality care, transforming smiles and improving the overall health and well-being of the community.

A Partnership for Health

The partnership between Dentaid UK, the Rotary Club of Christchurch UK, and Yekko Foundation Uganda was a shining example of how organizations can work together to make a difference in people’s lives. The donation had not only improved the dental team’s capacity to provide care but had also brought joy and gratitude to the community.

Jolly’s former dental chair was a torn sunlounger that could not be adjusted and wiped clean as efficiently.

Huge thanks from our Uganda partner and everyone at Dentaid The Dental Charity for supporting our equipment projects in Uganda.
